When it comes to pressure washing your deck, manufacturers’ recommendations should be carefully followed for the machine and for the cleaning solution. To make this important task go more smoothly, consider these 3 facts:
1. Three variables work together to produce water pressure on the surface of the deck:
- Angle of the nozzle or tip (a 20 degree tip is smaller and creates more pressure than a 40 degree tip)
- PSI setting (pressure per square inch)
- Distance of the pressure washer wand from the surface being cleaned
It’s a good idea to start “light” with all three variables to remove the problems and not pieces of the actual deck surface.
2. Determine which direction the water drains from the deck and work in that direction to avoid fighting gravity.
3. Before pressure washing a slender tool will help remove debris trapped between boards. Concentrating pressurized water on those areas in an effort to dislodge debris can seriously gouge the deck surface.
