If you have a big patio, then a five piece outdoor set could work great – it won’t work so well, however, if you are working with a small apartment size patio. Select furniture that fits with your style – wicker furniture, for instance, gives a very different feel than metal.
Lighting: If you plan to use your patio for entertaining, then you’ll want to select ambient lighting. LED lights or fairy lights are both cost-effective, and super easy to install. String them around trees, poles, railings, or from the ceiling. Lanterns are another great option to give your outdoor patio a unique feel. You can opt for solar powered lanterns, or keep it old-fashioned and rustic with candles. If your patio has the space, you might also opt for an outdoor fireplace or fire pit to provide both light and warmth on cooler summer evenings.
Plants: Now that you have your furniture and lights, it’s time to add some greenery. Mix it up with ceramic pots and hanging planters. Or, if you have a deck, rail planters are a great way to add some color. Make sure to choose plants that are appropriate for the amount of sunlight or shade that they’ll receive.
Accessorize: The icing on the cake to a perfect patio is in the accessories. Things like outdoor area rugs or outdoor cushions are a great, inexpensive way to add texture and color to your outdoor space. Metal or wicker buckets and baskets, coasters, rollaway bar carts, etc., are additional pieces that are both decorative and functional.
