Updating Your Kitchen on a Budget

The kitchen is the heart of every home, where a family hosts meals, has casual conversations, and of course, cooks meals together. There are tons of design remodeling ideas that can make a kitchen a more enjoyable space, but kitchen remodels come with a pretty price tag. If you’re on a budget, you can still make updates to your kitchen.

Read the following tips to update your kitchen without blowing your budget:

  • Switch your cabinet hardware. A very simple and quick way to spruce up your kitchen is to change your cabinet hardware. Old wooden knobs can be replaced with glass knobs to give your kitchen a modern feel. You can also paint wooden knobs a deeper shade of your cabinet color to give them a richer look.
  • Create your own pot rack. Pot and pan racks make kitchens appear homey while adding function, but why spend the money on an item you can create yourself? Install a shelf in your kitchen and accessorize it with cookbooks, knick knacks, or your most used cooking and baking items. Install hooks underneath the shelf and hang your pots and pans.
  • Hand-paint a backsplash. Apply glossy surface primer to the area you will be painting with a foam roller. Allow the primer to dry before applying the first coat of paint, and then allow a day or two to pass before applying a second coat of paint. Once the paint has dried, get creative by stenciling a design over the paint. Since the kitchen is a high traffic area, applying a coat of polyurethane will seal the paint and protect the design from cracking or peeling. Follow these simple tips and turn your kitchen into an area you and your family love inside your home.
