Home Improvements To Complete Before Labor Day

In the midst of summer, home improvements are the last thing on anyone’s mind. Beach days, barbecues, pool parties and vacations are probably all you can think about. But the summer is actually the perfect time to accomplish home improvements that just won’t offer the same results come fall or winter. Specifically, summer is a good time for exterior projects. Dover, DE interior decorator Deanna Kovah offers some of the best home improvement projects to tackle before Labor Day arrives.

Upgrade your curb appeal. Not only will a fresh coat of paint on the exterior of the house upgrade your curb appeal, a new front door or replacing old, dead plants with new ones can work wonders. The outside of your home is the first thing passersby and guests take note of so if you want to be thought of as a neat, polished person, the area outside of your home should reflect that.

Re-caulk your windows and doors. You should already be maintaining the surfaces of your windows and doors regularly. When you do so, take note of the status of the caulk surrounding them. In order to be effective, windows and doors need to be properly sealed. Summer is the perfect time to re-caulk any cracks you notice surrounding the edges. When winter rolls around, your home will be able to contain heat better.

Paint the exterior of your home. The ideal temperatures to paint a home can range from 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit, per the experts at Winston-Salem painters. While you may be able to swing this in the spring or fall, the weather can be quite unpredictable at that time. The summer season is your best bet for an exterior paint touch up, as the days are longer and most often fall within that temperature range (depending on your region).

Power wash your siding and windows. Your home may not need a fresh coat of paint just yet, but the exterior might appear a little dull and dingy. A good power wash could be the solution. A good pressure washer will remove built-up dirt and grime from your siding, sidewalks, and even your windows. Purchase or rent a power washing machine and tackle this project in an afternoon.

Clean and stain your deck. Scrub or power wash your deck to remove any dirt, grime and mold that accumulated over the summer. After it’s clean and dried, seal or stain the deck to protect it from the potential damage that can happen in the upcoming months due to rain, snow and sleet.

Organize your garage or shed. Garages and sheds are normally filled with garden tools, bicycles, and other random items that don’t seem to have a place inside of your house. Not much thought goes into what you’re placing in these spots, so a lot of clutter has probably developed over time. Summer is the perfect time to take a step back and reorganize your outdoor storage spaces. Not only can you get rid of items you don’t use anymore but you won’t have to go searching through mountains of odds and ends to find the one thing you need in the future.

Though it may seem like the last thing you want to do while you’re enjoying your summer, getting some of these home improvements done before Labor Day will be a huge weight off your shoulders come the fall!
