Prepping Your Home for Football Season

Pre-season football games have officially begun and fantasy football drafts are taking place all over the country. Not only are the fans in the stands passionate about the sport, but the fans watching at home are just as enthusiastic about the next five months. If you have been deemed the host of all of your Sunday football parties, you may be thinking about ways to enhance your home for maximum viewing pleasure. Here are some tips on how to prep your home for football season:

Start with the TV. The television should be the focal point of the room. If you have a large, flat screen TV, considering mounting it on the wall for optimum viewing. If your television is smaller, the TV stand it sits on should be high enough so that the TV can be seen from multiple vantage points. For a bit of decorative flare, frame your television with shelving units, pictures, or posters of your favorite team’s players.

Show off your team spirit. The expert painters in Layton say that if you have neutral-colored walls in the room you host your gatherings in, working your team’s colors into the decor is easy! Get throw pillows or blankets in solids or prints of the team colors. If you consider yourself a super-fan, invest in some cool memorabilia, like framed jerseys or wall decals of your favorite teams logo.

Arrange your seating. Your living room may not offer your guests stadium seating, but comfortable chairs and couches will work! A sectional is ideal to provide multiple seating options and create a more open floor space. If the size of the room only permits a smaller couch, incorporate accent chairs somewhere in the space. Ultimately, your goal is to make sure your guests are able to view the TV in any seat they choose.

Designate a place for drinks and snacks. For some guests, the food and beverage offered during the party are even more important than the game itself. Guests don’t want to be holed up in the kitchen, missing out on the game! Place enough tabling or trays in the room for people to put down their drinks and plates. If the entire space will be dedicated to entertaining, install bar rails along some of the walls to leave coasters, drinks, and small plates. If the room is on the smaller side, an ottoman with a decorative tray can work as a serving station.

Invest in a beverage cart. The amount of beverages consumed during a football game can be too much to count. Place a beverage cart in the room equipped with ice, cups and a variety of drink options. This way, guests can replenish their own beverages at their leisure.

Not everyone is a football fanatic, so make sure you designate another room in the house as a place to chit chat, eat and drink without having any obligation to pay attention to the game. If your house has an open floor plan, this can just be a different section of the living room. If not, the kitchen is always a great place to gather! Then sit back and enjoy the season to come. Following these tips will make you the MVP of every party you host. For more tips on interior design, reach out to Theresa Pineda, an interior decorator in Redwood City, CA.
