Dressing your home up for fall doesn’t have to be a difficult process. Fortunately, there are some simple swaps you can make to welcome the autumn season in! Cathi Lloyd, a Munster, IN interior decorator shares some of her favorite things to switch out when the seasons change.
- Spruce up with throw pillows. While you can’t really swap out your current couch or bedroom set for a new one, you can swap out the pillows that dress it up! Swap your summer printed pillows for ones that feature the warm hues of fall. Think burnt orange, golden yellow, and deep red. If you prefer neutrals, look for patterns that feature earthy tans and browns. If you don’t have any festive pillows, check your local craft or home goods store for some inexpensive options. They’re always on sale before the season officially starts.
- Break out the throw blankets. Your couch has probably been free of blankets for some time, but as the colder weather rolls in, having throw blankets at arms-length will keep you and your guests comfortable. Opt for blankets with warmer tones to them, as they can help dress up the space and make it feel extra cozy. Faux fur is extremely trendy right now and makes for the perfect accessory to any modern living space.
- Freshen the air. Nothing makes a space cozier than lighting a candle. Incorporating scent helps elevate your overall design and welcomes the fall season in its entirety. Use apple cinnamon candles in the kitchen and pumpkin spice candles throughout your living and dining spaces. Choose scents that will blend well from one room to the next to create the ultimate scent experience!
- Swap out artwork. The art you display in your home says a lot about who you are as a person, but it can also set the vibe for the season. Swapping out the artwork on your walls for fall-inspired pieces is a quick and easy way to welcome autumn into your home. If you have large or expensive pieces that you don’t want to switch out, replace smaller framed items with festive prints.
- Introduce earthy elements. During the spring and summer, floral arrangements feature the florals native to that time of year. Swap the summer florals and seashells for their fall counterparts. Instead of the traditional arrangement of pinecones in a bowl, use autumn accents like cotton boll or eucalyptus branches. Incorporate some pretty candles to create the ultimate fall tablescape in your living or dining room.
Welcome fall into your home with these simple swaps!
