Summer DIY Projects You Still Have Time To Do

Summer is in full swing! By now, you may have realized you never started any of your seasonal projects. Before shelving all your plans for next year, consider completing DIY projects that don’t require loads of time. Read on for summer DIY projects you still have time to do.

Dye some decor

If your living space has felt a little lackluster, why not dive into one of the most popular trends of the season? Tie-dye! You can add color and individuality by dyeing your linens, such as pillowcases, curtains, and tablecloths. The dye is fairly inexpensive and can be found at most craft stores. You can also use natural items like flowers and herbs. In one afternoon, you can completely transform your linens and living area. According to an interior designer in the Villages, FL, dyeing decor items allows you to personalize your living space and incorporate complementary colors at little expense. Don’t just limit yourself to one color; test ombre techniques and use multiple colors.

Start a garden

A gift that keeps on giving year-round is your own personal fruit and vegetable garden. Choose an area in your yard that gets a decent amount of sunlight and try your hand at growing produce. If you are short on space, consider using hanging potted plants. Supplies, such as seeds and mulch, are readily available at most hardware and home improvement stores. Some edible plants that are in season from August through the fall include cucumber, peas, sweet peppers, and cauliflower. Be sure to research what grows well in your area, and you can be well on your way to a bountiful harvest come winter.

Show off your plants

If you find that your space feels overwhelmed with greenery, it may be time to display your plants differently. A tiered hanging planter is a relatively easy project that allows you to showcase your plants in a new way. Most DIY planters only require a few items, such as rope or string, and a few pieces of wood. Your finished product will bring a charming and rustic feel to your living area while freeing up space usually taken up by your potted plants.

Build a fire pit

Installing a fire pit is another home improvement project with year-round benefits, and it doesn’t take ages to build. While above-ground fire pits are readily available for purchase at most home improvement stores, a built-in fire pit is a lasting addition to your home. With a little digging and some gravel and stones, you can have your own personal fire pit in as little as two days. Be sure to check up on local codes dealing with open flames so you can be sure your fire pit is located in an appropriate spot.

Build a bar cart

A bar cart is the perfect addition to any outdoor living area, especially if you entertain outdoors during the warmer months. Most DIY bar carts utilize old pieces of furniture, such as stools or cabinets, as the cart’s foundation. You can also purchase cuts of wood to assemble your bar cart. Whichever you choose, you will have a custom cart and outdoor bar area that is sure to make your home a favorite amongst friends and family.

Summer is flying by, but that doesn’t mean you have to abandon your summer projects. As the examples above show, not every DIY project has to take up a ton of your time. Tackle some of your DIY projects and enjoy your time in the sun.
